Most Americans have experienced the simple pleasure of cracking open an ice-cold Coca-Cola on a cold day. That first carbonated sip tastes equally sweet and refreshing. Whether you’re a fan of Diet Coke, Cherry Coke, or another variation, the consensus is usually the same: Coca-Cola’s recipe is delicious.

Well, prepare yourself, because that might change. In a recent statement on Truth Social, President Donald Trump is calling for Coca-Cola to change its recipe. “I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so. I’d like to thank all of those in authority at Coca-Cola,” Trump wrote in the social media post. “This will be a very good move by them — You’ll see. It’s just better!”

This new decision could be the result of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s new health secretary, discussing the alleged risks of a high intake of high-fructose corn syrup (the sweetener currently used in U.S. Coke). He called it “a formula for making you obese and diabetic,” according to Newsweek.

However, just because President Trump is calling for this change doesn’t mean it will necessarily happen. A spokesperson for Coca-Cola gave CNN the following statement: “We appreciate President Trump’s enthusiasm for our iconic Coca-Cola brand. More details on new innovative offerings within our Coca-Cola product range will be shared soon.”

People have already taken to Reddit to voice their concerns about Trump’s proposed change. “Dude really thinks he’s emperor. He’s making corporate decisions for the corps without their knowledge,” one person wrote. Another commented, “And Coke probably has to import the cane sugar with a 30% tariff added, what a deal!”

Whether or not Coca-Cola decides to change its recipe is still unknown. In the meantime, we’ll be enjoying the bottles we know and love that are currently on shelves.Read the comments
